Palm Kernel Cake
Palm Kernel Expeller (PKE), sometimes referred to as Palm kernel cake (PKC), has long been known to be an important ingredient for the formulation of animal feeds.
PKE is obtained as a by-product from the extraction of palm kernel oil via the mechanical process. The production of PKE involves the grinding of palm kernels followed by screw pressing with or without an intermediary flaking and cooking stages. During the screw pressing stage, the raw palm kernel oil is diverted for clarification and the residual PKE is cooled and stored in a warehouse.
This product is known for its balanced energy and protein, high fibre, good level of residual oil and high in palmitic acid.

Storage
Like all dry feeds,they should be stored in a secure shed, bunker, bin or hopper and kept cool, dry and free from vermin. Due to the relatively high oil content of Palm Kernel Expeller, it is unsuitable for long term storage and should ideally be used within two to three months of delivery; overtime the oil will start to oxidise and reduce both the palatability and feed value of the load.
